I had an epiphany of sorts today, well maybe not an epiphany, more like a realisation... but first, a story:
Sep 6, 2008, 15:47:23 SGT
- 1 pair of F1 3-day walkabout tickets put up on ebay for sale. Starting price: S$300
Sep 7 - 12, 2008
- Bid increases an average of S$30 each day. Excitement over the prospect of easy cash
increases as the bid does.
Sep 13, 2008, 15:47:23 SGT
- Tickets sold successfully over ebay for the final sum of S$512.50. Winning bid is placed just
3 minutes before the bid ends.
Sep 13, 2008, 17:56 SGT
- Agreement to meet with buyer at Clementi MRT station at 7pm takes place via email.
Turns out the buyer is a "huge German guy with a goatee" (in his words)
Sep 13, 2008, 18:54 SGT
- Arrive at Clementi MRT station.
Sep 13, 2008, 18:55 - 19:00 SGT
- Wait for German guy to appear (lets call him Bernard, sounds better than "German guy")
Sep 13, 2008, 19:01 SGT
- Bernard is a no-show
Sep 13, 2008, 19:02 SGT
- Bernard is a no-show
Sep 13, 2008, 19:03 SGT
- Bernard is a no-show
Sep 13, 2008, 19:04 SGT
- Bernard is a no-show
Sep 13, 2008, 19:05 SGT
- Bernard is a no-show (Starting to get a teensy bit worried)
Sep 13, 2008, 19:06 SGT
- Spot huge White guy with a goatee coming down the escalator. He's wearing a
blue shirt with the words "same same" on it.
Sep 13, 2008, 19:07 - 19:13 SGT (around then)
- Transaction complete. I walk away from that station $500 richer and hoping I don't get
robbed, Bernard walks away with a pair of F1 tickets. Everyone's happy :)
And so goes the tale of how I got enough money to buy a new ipod...ebay is seriously cool, free cash hehheh at no cost. But I digress, back to the realisation.
When I saw bernard coming down the escalator (see bolded timestamp above), I looked in his direction and caught his eye. At that exact moment and in the few seconds following that, there was an unspoken message that passed between us which said "Hey, i'm the guy you're waiting for." Neither of us had seen each other before in our lives (him even more so cause I didn't describe myself to him but just left him my handphone number, at least I had a description) but in that exact moment we locked gazes we just knew. Needless to say we shook hands, introduced ourselves, I passed him the tickets, he passed me the cash (yippie!) and that was that.
The important thing was in that 3 secs when we locked eyes and the message passed "I'm your man". Love is like that, I think. (well, in my case maybe not the "i'm your man" part. You get the idea) Anyway, when you meet the person you end up falling in love with, I think that eye lock/unspoken message thing happens. You just know, y'know. But, just like the ebay transaction, nothings gonna happen if you don't go up and introduce yourself. And maybe, if you're lucky, you end up walking away richer from the encounter. Not in the monetary sense, but richer because you've just met someone who will enrich your life.
Ah, I wonder if I'm actually making any sense here at all...its hard to express inner realisations. This encounter just brings to mind songs like When you say Nothing at all, More than Words...now I have a deeper understanding of the lyrics and stuff. (Wow, this post is quite a departure from previous posts. hehheh)
Oh, and I should probably mention that I had a second realisation today. I shan't share this one however...it has the (possible) destructive power of an atomic supercollider gone wrong (okay, not really lah I'm exaggerating) but still, cannot share, sorry.
Till next time,
Make a bid for love today
