"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"
- Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
I was actually going to do one of those best of/worst of category things, but this is as far as I got:
Best Movie: Wall.E
No other movie comes quite close to this one in 2008, save maybe the sweeping superhero masterpiece that is The Dark Knight. A perfect blend of humour, action, and tenderness, Wall.E is a storytelling masterpiece. Sweet but not sappy, it was full of childlike wonder but retained a depth and maturity many of its peers attempt to achieve. If you have not yet seen it, I would be happy to lend the dvd to you (especially you, person who thinks its just a lame show about talking robots. So there.)Best Novel: Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn
I haven't read any novels published this year, so this will have to do I suppose; it was published in 2001. I was actually intending to put Margeret Atwood's The Blind Assassin down but I realised that I enjoyed Ella Minnow Pea more. Ella Minnow Pea is one of those novels which makes you love the english language even more, lets you see it for all its beauty and complexity and wonder. It may not have the emotional depth of breadth as other novels (the Man Booker prize winning sort), nor does it have exceptionally memorable characters. However, the sheer amount of creativity and ingenious wordsmithing on display within its pages makes it one of the most amazing novels I have other picked up. If you would like to borrow it, don't hesitate to ask! Then I got plain lazy and my fingers refused to type out the rest. I still had best album, worst song, best actor, best TV drama etcetc in my pocket but ohwells.
2008 could best be described as the year of questions. Questions were aplenty but answers were few and far between. Where did all the time go? is one prevalent one. Which TOK question are you doing? was/is another.
Where did all the time go?
And I can say with confidence that I have absolutely no clue. In the blink of an eye,an entire year has passed us. What once is, is now was. The only thing we can do now is look forward to the new year, and hopefully try not to let it pass us by. Carpe Diem! as they say.
2008 was also a year of learning.
I have learnt much, and I have my friends and family to thank for this. Never in a single year have I learnt so much about life, the universe, and everything. Thank you, thank you, thank you, You.

No. 1 - Easy. My Emotions have long run away, hid themselves in a dark, damp cave, where they hunt small birds and reptiles for nutrition and at night, they curl up together in a corner and cover themselves with a large piece of green-grey canvas which they all share to keep out the cold. Besides, Work is my main priority. fortyfivefortyfivefortyfive
No. 2 -Hard. I've been doing it for the past 17 years. I'll go cold turkey if I stop now.
No.3 - Hard. By nature I am a pessimist. Oh, I just know I'm going to fail miserably.
No. 4 - Hard but I must persevere...I need all the karma I can get for IB finals hehe.
No. 5 - Hard. I need a taffy puller.
No. 6 - Easy. Buy more alarm clocks and set them all to ring at consecutive minutes.
No. 7 - Hard. I can never resist a good sale. And I can't read that fast.
No. 8 - Hard. I have long cultivated the habit of not writing stuff down just so I can improve my memory skills. Might I add that my memory is quite good. Better than those goldfish, anyway.
No. 9 - EASY. hahahhaha
No. 10 - Hard. I won't try too hard for this though...In chaos, there is order!
No. 11- Again, EASY. ohyessss :D
No. 12 - Hard. But just needs practise.
No. 13 - Easy. Leave my wallet at home and convince my parents to leave all their credit cards too. Alternatively, I could reinstall Sims 2 on my laptop and live vicariously (I love that word) through my virtual characters. The motherlode cheat would be exceptionally useful in this situation.
No. 14 - Hard. Schemes are my main source of fibre.
No. 15 - Hard. I get bored and distracted easily.
No. 16 - Easy. Now if I could just find the boxset so I can purchase it...
No. 17 - Easy. Heh.
No. 18 - Hard. I think the cave they're in is somewhere in the Himalayas. Now I have to add "learn how to read a map","pick up mountain climbing skills" and "learn to survive in the wild with nothing but a towel" to my list. And to hell with work.
And that's that I guess. I wonder how many I'll be able to accomplish. Hm.
Which leaves one last question before the year is up, one that I think will haunt me for some time to come:
Should I have taken a slice?
Ohyes, and this is belated (both are. I really have to stop procrastinating)
Happy Birthday Nicole and Waiteng! :)
